Smart Choices offers tools and tips to help you reach your financial goals! It may be a first step or just provide another helpful hint along your family's path toward financial stability. Learn tax basics, resources to check (and repair) your credit history, ways to save, and a special section for the self-employed.
United Way of Massachusetts Bay and Merrimack Valley, in consultation with Community Based Financial Planners, developed this web-based resource leveraging and integrating financial education with tax filing.
The topics covered in “Smart Choices” were narrowed and field tested locally at free tax preparation sites, and further developed at the 2009 National Community Tax Coalition Conference. Although meant for volunteer tax preparers at the IRS-certified, free tax sites (i.e. VITA: Volunteer Income Tax Assistance) and the tax payers who have their taxes prepared at these sites, the Smart Choices resource is offered to the general public in concert with the information and referral resource of Mass 2-1-1.
